I found the car clean and ready to go. When I needed to extend in a different city they were ever so helpful. I thought their price was very good for this time of year
0 stars — absolute scam operation We saw the bad reviews but still took a chance — big mistake. At the Punta Cana airport counter, they lured us in with a “cheap” rate. The moment we paid $100, the story changed: suddenly it was $70/day insurance or a $2,500 deposit, pushing the total up by another $350 for just 3 days. On return, they slapped on an extra $100 “cleaning fee” out of nowhere. This place runs on pressure tactics — they know you’ve got a flight to catch and corner you into paying whatever they demand. Total bait-and-switch. Staff at the counter were rude, unhelpful, and acted like this behavior is normal. No transparency, no professionalism — just a cash grab. Avoid at all costs. Not worth the stress.
Patience and respect from the team. The car was clean and I didnt wait too long to get/return it.
Scam like all the companies that propose a very cheap price. They propose $6 per day in Tampa, but it does NOT include any insurance... So, I booked 7 days for $42 that I payed on their site and when I arrived to get the car, they explain me that I have to add an insurance and the most cheap is to pay $294 more for the 7 days, so in total $336 for a week... What that seemed cheap, become the most expensive... So, I lost the $42 and went to the normal car rentals (hertz, avis, dollar...) and I had a car in AVIS for $194 all included... Always be suspicious of anything that is so cheap, because at the end, it becomes more expensive
The attached video showing how to get to the pickup location was helpful. Driver arrived quickly. Checkout process was quick. All representatives were helpful. Return process was fast and effortless. Would definitely recommend. Great rental car experience, no issues
Rented a car and on returning, they said I had damaged in many places. Made up and conned me as they rushed me through and also said they were only pending charges on credit card but taken with 24hours.
If I could save just one person from getting ripped off I’d be happy. Avoid this company! At least the Fort Lauderdale location
Do not rent from this company! It is a scam. They said I had to pay an extra US$200 per day for insurance even though I already had insurance that fully covered the rental car through my credit card. I also offered to pay a full deposit to cover the car, but they still said I had to buy their insanely expensive insurance. I asked for a refund and they refused to give me a refund. I went to Budget instead and got a fair price.
We were taken by shuttle (it took us an hour. This is important) to the back of an abandoned ship yard. I rented via a Priceline package so after my wait I wasn’t allowed to speak to the person at the desk, I had to use a kiosk to speak via video call which failed multiple times. Between the planes going over and the people going through to use the bathroom, you couldn’t hear. Since we were late due to the shuttle, they cancelled our reservation and then wanted to charge us $700, scan every personal document and credit card into said kiosk while the lady at the front said they had no cars available. We returned to the airport and had to rent a car independently. This took the first 5 hours of our vacation. Do NOT leave the airport terminal to rent a vehicle.
Advertised low cost rental rates-BAIT. At check-in, they wanted to add almost $600 in fees on top of what was already paid, to meet required auto policy coverage limits-SWITCH. Seems like classic bait & switch tactics imo…please review to determine for yourself. This company did not email us necessary & pertinent documents for pickup, specifically the voucher. We searched for key words (voucher) in the email looking for this allegedly sent document. This company said they sent it, we determined that was a lie. Iykyk. It is extremely difficult to review the rental policy if the company does not send the info…. Seems like incompetence. Please review to determine for yourself. Apparently the voucher explains the “required” fees for bodily injury and property damage requirements and it’s damn near impossible to review this before pickup if they don’t send this information. Inefficient pickup process, no employees at location to assist, just a clear plastic, fish bowl booth with a touch screen to use & start your “call” to an agent. Not to mention the wait to use said fish-bowl. If your flight is delayed and you don’t pickup within an hour of your reservation time, they cancel the reservation, no call, no text. No checking with you for a basic Sanka ya dead mon? Notta. Basically pis* off. So after the delay flight, sketchy van ride to offsite pickup, and hour of attempting to reach an agent, she states we did not call to let them know our flight was delayed, that is correct as we were in the air, unable to call. After all this BS we decided to cancel our reservation, we ordered an uber and back to the airport car rentals we went. Shout out to AVIS, coming thru in the clutch. Our impromptu AVIS rental total was significantly LESS. 🙌🏼 Our kid was hanging in like a champ, and not crying/complaining; other families with younger children did not have such luck. To all those choosing this company: May the odds be ever in your favor. Shame on Priceline and Expedia and ANY other companies who promote this company and their unethical practices.
1st they are super hard to get ahold of. You can SMS message them or use the WhatsApp. If that doesn't seem shady I don't know what is. Also they take $500 as a Security deposit on the car. Not a hold they pull the $$ at lightning speed off your credit card. Speaking of credit cards my husbands capital one card would not even let him use it because they didn't deem them safe. It took well over a month to get my $500. back and that was with constant calls and messages to any # that wasnt on WhatsApp. Also they were supposed to take us to the Airport when returning the rental. No one was there and there was a large lock on the outside of the door. We ended up having to pay for an UBER which got us there less then 10 minutes to check our luggage in so we wouldnt miss our flight. I booked them through Priceline bundle. Priceline was NO HELP either. Never use them either. So run from this company as fast as you can
We rented a vehicle with America Rent-a-Car in Mexico for 5 weeks for a road trip, and the experience was excellent. We drove about 2,000 km and enjoyed every minute of it. At one point, we had to return to the counter to address a minor air conditioning issue. To our surprise, the vehicle had been completely cleaned, which was a very nice touch. The staff was very kind and helpful throughout. A special mention to Javi Martinez, who was extremely supportive and reassuring both before and during our trip. Overall, a very positive experience — we would definitely rent with them again.
The team at America Car Rental is very helpful and informative! The cars are well equipped and ready when promised. Best rates in the area!!

On February 17, 2026 we returned the car charged 31,347.40 MXN again due to an administrative error. The original 31,347.40 and the 8,000 should be credited on our Visa card, only the he 8,000 MXN was credited. The representative in Cancun told us 2-3 days on February 17, 2026 for the charge to be reversed. When will I get the credit it’s been 14 days? Contacted America Car Rental via voice, WhatsApp and email with no satisfactory explanation to date. I’ve started a dispute with Visa which could take up to 90 days. Also I’m out the currency exchange for the second time of $62.36 CAD. This is the worst customer service ever, I’ve sent them proof of the double payment on two occasions which they have decided to ignore for some reason! I don’t know if this is a new SCAM or what, but after bring a loyal customer for five or more years, this is the last time.
Predatory business with deceptive practices. They engage in a classic bait and switch: - You make a reservation. - You show up, and nobody's insurance qualifies, so you're forced to pay an extra $60/day for their insurance. - Then, based on the state of your driver's license, you'll be limited to 50 mi, even though your reservation was for unlimited miles. Dirty, scammy business. We must put them out of business.
