I'm a stickler for cancelling subscriptions before it expires, especially it is something I knew wasn't for me. But Brain.FM kept charging me anyway. I'm filing a bank complaint.

Charged after cancelling — awaiting resolution

I cancelled my trial on day 1 but was still charged for a yearly plan ($140.69 CAD) 34 days later. I've contacted support and turned off renewal again. Will update this review once I hear back from their team.

Solid service but very overpriced, not a scam

Despite what some reviews here are saying, the company does not scam their users or use bad practices. They work via a subscription-based model, with an option to opt out before trial period runs out (just like every other subscription model on the planet). I used brain.fm during the trial period and was not charged anything once it ended. I also notice that many other reviewers have had positive experiences with their customer service. That said, I think it's overpriced for what it is ($15 monthly or $100 yearly is outreagous). I like the music, it does help - but it's not some magic pill to your attention problems. It's just music optimized for concentration. I will gladly return to using brain.fm once the price drops to ~$5/month. Until then, Spotify Premium is a completely adequate alternative. The verdict is, if you're looking for solid music to overcome noise distractions, have a good pair of headphones with noise cancelling, and plenty of money in your bank account, brain.fm is a pretty solid choice. If you don't like paying ridiculous subscription fees like me, use anything else.

used it for over a year now - bought a subscription after using in on a daily basis. And unlike many other apps - this one works for me!

Non-compliant renewal practices

I've been a user for more than a year now and I started to like the focus part and sleep noises. BUT I really hate their shady practices of not sending any notifications when it comes to subscription renewal. No "your subscription is about to be renewed," and not even a confirmation receipt when you're being charged. Be very mindful about giving your credit card details. To their team, I suggest starting to read about subscription rules on the FTC's website.

Not a scam!

I find it inappropriate that several reviews claim it’s a scam without any proof. I tried Brain fm for nearly two months; I really liked the music and the app's features. However, I wasn't really using it, so I requested a refund within the 60-day free trial period and was successfully refunded. My interactions with customer service were courteous, everything worked smoothly—in short, I don’t think it’s a scam! As for whether it’s just AI-generated music, I can’t say for sure, but I haven’t found a better free alternative (on YouTube or Spotify).

Please reply

Please reply you are asking for credit card details and then claiming its for a "Smooth transition" when you know exactly what you are doing, this platform is evil, whoever is responding to the reviews is lying to the people who are upset with the trial

Most productivity apps rely on toxic…

Most productivity apps rely on toxic gamification, but Brain.fm takes a highly intentional approach. The offline downloads can be a bit slow to sync, but the core audio functional acts as perfect cognitive scaffolding for deep work. There are zero dark patterns or push notifications trying to hijack your bandwidth. A masterclass in ethical tech that actively protects your attention.

Deceptive "Dark Patterns" – Not a "Commitment-Free" Trial

Brain.fm uses classic "Dark Patterns" to mislead users. They advertise a "No commitment trial," bait you into providing your email address, and only after they have your data, they demand credit card information "in case you decide to continue." This is a textbook lack of good faith. If a trial requires a credit card, it is NOT commitment-free—it's an opt-out trap designed to profit from people who forget to cancel. Despite numerous complaints about this exact tactic, they refuse to change. A company that claims to help with focus shouldn’t rely on cheap psychological manipulation to get paid. I feel deceived. Avoid giving them your data.

Music didn't quite hit the spot

Edited: The music didn't quite hit the spot for me. My mind got too involved in the music, and different bits of my brain started buzzing too often. The free trial ended before I cancelled, but they were helpful and sorted a refund of fees. I was worried they wouldn't, but all nice and easy. Top marks for customer service.
