I recently used Colonial Van Lines for a long-distance move and was pleasantly surprised by how organised everything was. The team handled my belongings with care, and the moving process was clearly explained from start to finish. It made a stressful situation much easier, and I felt confident throughout the entire journey.
Driver was on time, friendly, efficient, and patient. Couldn’t imagine a better driver.
Worst moving experience of all times. ZERO communications, zero updates, hold you as a hostage waiting for them to show up when they are supposed to. They don't care what the customer thinks. Manager starts arguing with you instead if trying to even minimally compensating your lost time waiting. Chose another company!
If I could do zero stars I would! This company is the worst moving experience that I have ever had by FAR and I have moved many times. I was told every day that my items were coming the next day. The drop off time kept getting moved for over 8 days. The communication was minimal and vague. When they did call, they kept asking me if the driver had called me. The driver never called until the day before drop off after 8 days. I was told at one point that the truck broke down. The job was contracted to a smaller moving company that didn’t bother to communicate with me for 8 days until the day before delivery and he was still vague.
On time for both pick up and delivery. Called to let us know approximate delivery time so that someone would be available to receive the delivery and sign for it. No complaints from us.
The account manager, Alex, was great. There seemed to be a mix-up on the front end. The date of our pack up was pushed back a day, so they had to pack and load the truck in one day. All in all, even with the delay, things went pretty well.
I only added a second star for two reasons: 1) The loading crew (outsourced to Moving America) was magnificent (unloading? not so much) and 2) Everything made it in good condition. I had several questions during the process and each time was not able to reach the account manager who, typically, called back the next day, too late to address the immediate issue. As I mentioned, the loading crew was fabulous; polite, respectful, hard-working and incredibly efficient. The delivery driver refused to give me and my wife time to check the unloaded items against the original inventory. He said there wasn't time. He needed to be somewhere. Roughly 25% of the items landed in the wrong part of the house. He drove his crew like a chain gang. Furthermore, they left all the packing trash on the side of my house for me to dispose of. It was, overall, a very unpleasant, chaotic and stressful experience. Finally, if you've been to Colonial's web site with its lovely photos, flowery text and happy testimonials, it gives you the expectation that a Colonial-branded truck will arrive with bonafide Colonial employees. "We are a family dedicated to your satisfaction" it mentions on several pages. Well, the contracted team, Moving America LLC, pulled up in a rental truck and we were confused. The account manager gave me the corporate line that the contractors were highly trained to Colonial standards. This is fine except for the fact that I could've hired a brokered mover for $1,500 less (based on 3 other bids I solicited) and gotten a similar or perhaps better experience. Again, before you label me a typically disgruntled customer, the loading crew exceeded expectations and everything made it safely. I spoke to a senior manager two days after the move about the same feedback that I gave to the Colonial survey. He promised to get back to me. He finally called back a week later.
Great job all around. The communication was great and the packers/movers were Outstanding!!
I would never use them again. I moved from Illinois to Texas. I expected a Colonial Moving Truck, but what I got was a different company from Houston to move me. I was not told it would not be Colonial. They damaged 18 out of 24 pieces of furniture. They totally destroyed our 1800's Grandfather clock. Missing was 5 items that never made it to Texas. I asked Colonial many times to call to see if they had forgotten the items in Houston. (There was a two week layover in Houston). I'm missing a couple of boxes also. All they gave me was $1000 for compensation. Never ever again. Think twice before using them!!!!!
We had the BEST experience with our long distance move. We started this process back in October with a quote that was very hard to pass up. We needed our full household and a truck transported. From the timeline to our destination everything was spot on. If you have the pleasure to get Marco as your driver, no words can express how dedicated he was to make this move as seamless as possible, and it was. I highly recommend Colonial a thousand times over.
Your teams made swift work of the loading and unloading at both ends of this job. Great guys, they were very personable and helpful. Both teams. Patrick setup the load, enumerated all the boxes and just plodded along to get all of my storage units cleared out. There were five storage units. A LOT of stuff. It was stressful for me and your guys took the stress out of it. When the load reached its destination, the guys were swift and precise unloading. An almost full truck with almost 7 tons of miscellaneous materials just stacked to the ceiling presented a serious challenge. But Gerson and his team member made it look easy! They did another fantastic job. Very happy with the move. Very happy with Colonial!!
We had a great experience with the customer service at Colonial. Our first contact was Nicholas, and he was very detailed in explaining each step. On day of packing, Bernadette called several times and on day of delivery, she called, also. I was pleased with their service.
Smooth Move With Colonial I was selling my home in SC to relocate to FL. Contacted Colonial Movers to obtain a quote and set up necessary details to get things started. Selling the home and getting all personal goods ready to pack in a designated time frame was challenging. The customer service team at Colonial are wonderful. They kept in touch throughout the entire process by text, email, and phone to ensure the move stayed on schedule. The truck drivers were impressive - on time for pick up and delivery, extremely polite, hard working, and careful with the goods/furniture. Was very pleased and would highly recommend them!
I had an absolutely terrible experience with this moving company and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. I booked them for an out-of-state move, expecting a professional and reliable service. Instead, the problems started the night before my scheduled pickup when they suddenly changed my move date with almost no notice. This completely disrupted my plans and added unnecessary stress to an already overwhelming process. Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. Several of my items arrived broken, clearly due to careless handling. Even more concerning, some valuable items are now missing entirely. This is unacceptable and has left me both frustrated and disappointed. To make matters worse, I have been unable to get in touch with anyone at the company to address these issues. My calls go unanswered, and my emails have been ignored. The lack of accountability and customer service is incredibly unprofessional. Overall, this was an awful experience from start to finish. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for a trustworthy moving service.
Absolutely disgraceful company. Don’t use.
