Do not rent from this company! Booked an Alaska trip with a camper van and a class C camper 4 months in advance with full payment. 1 week before the trip they changed my booking to a jeep with a tent, did not even notify me, I noticed the change when I went online for the check in process. Their online customer service is horrendously unhelpful. Gave generic blanket statements with no solutions, sometimes they would not even answer and ignore parts of my questions such as the difference in cost. In small print somewhere we were apparently told they hold the right to change the booking, even though you payed for it already. Thankfully the local worker when we got to AK changed the booking, they were helpful. But then the camper did have a massive water leak. Would not recommend given their customer support prior to the trip. Was such a stressor before we even started the trip.
Van was unclean and barely road worthy. Tyres were very low, we were assured it was fine but when another person saw they told us to get them replaced immediately. Understaffed - we were told by staff that if we got in trouble good luck as customer support can be patching at best….. they were right. We were left on the side of the road for two days before leaving the van there and taking an uber to a hotel. No replacement van offered. The depot looked like a crack house. They then charged us for damages we couldn’t have done. Reported to bank deneied the charges!!!
Indie Campers Cairns tried to kill us. Avoid these cowboys. They left the gas bottle pumping gas into our van. So lucky not to have been poisoned or to have had an explosion. And they did this all to try to save money -- they didn't have enough gas bottles. The van itself had many other faults. Fridge didn't work. Air conditioning didn't work. Door didn't open. What a shambles.
Renting an IndieCampers van looks great until you get to the security deposit part. You can read all about it from Reddit posts and I will contribute here with my story. I delivered a van after an 8 day trip, which went OK. I left it clean and treated it as if it was my own. There was some damage on the top-right-back corner of the van which was found by their after-trip analysis. I don't recall the moment the damage was done but I don't question it as they take photos before and after. I also parked close to trees so no problem there. As expected I would cover the damages. All good so far. Now let's get to the value! They are going to keep 1869.24 euros from my deposit because that is the cost of the repair. ??? Almost 1.9K to fix a "light dent"; their words not mine? They also didn't send this damage report until now, 2 months after the trip, I guess because they were not sure how to deliver this ridiculous news. If you are comfortable with trusting them with a large security deposit or paying overpriced insurance, go ahead, otherwise, I would avoid. I am completely open to negotiation and paying for damage in rentals but not like this and not these values.
My sister and her fiancé were excited for their Indie Campers road trip—until reality hit. After paying over €3,000, they returned the RV within 24 hours due to a filthy vehicle, a full sewage tank, and foul-smelling water (health threatening!!!). Indie Campers promised a refund, but it hasn't been issued and there's no guarantee. They’re not alone—many others have faced similar issues. Don’t trust the paid positive reviews; check Reddit and hidden Instagram comments to see the growing number of victims. Avoid this company!
