IRIS Indigo pushed me in ways that truly opened my eyes to the extent of my own potential. The program guides you towards publishing a research paper using an 8-week efficient process that teaches you the fundamentals of research and writing. As someone who had zero prior experience studying neuroscience and research, I was able to write an in-depth review paper from scratch. Overall, I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me and would highly recommend the program to any students looking to improve their research skills.
I liked the trust and guidance
The opportunity to write my first research paper with Indigo truly shaped my life. Now, I want to proceed with research work in even deeper level during my university years. Thank you a lot, Indigo team, for this brilliant experience, it was perfectly structured and organised! I always had the best support and guidance from my mentor and the team. After this experience, I did not only strength my CV, but also discovered a new life perspective.
The IRIS program by Indigo Research is really well organized, intensive and insightful. It helped me understand research methods clearly and gave me practical experience that I could actually apply. The guidance from mentors was really supportive and made learning engaging.
The Indigo Research Programme and the IRIS scholarship taught me about the world of research and genetics in such a unique, enriching, and educational way that I ended up confirming my passion for genetics and neuroscience. From every class I took with Dr. Shaye to the completion of my research, I felt supported by each of my peers and Indigo. It is an experience I would recommend to any secondary school student, as it helps you grow academically and discover the incredible world of research.
The IRIS program was a super enjoyable experience! The mix of research rigor and the exciting connections you make along the way made it feel more like an adventure than a course. I was able to learn a lot about the construction of a research paper, and I am grateful for the mental endurance I was able to develop throughout the program. The relationships I built with my professor, TA, and peers are the most important aspects I'll remember. Their support can boost your paper to a new level and give new insights.
I participated in the IRIS research program at Indigo Research during the summer, where I worked with Professor Mark DeSantis on the course of entrepreneurship. It was an inspiring and insightful experience that helped me develop strong analytical and research skills. The support from the Indigo Research team was professional and responsive, and I really appreciated the opportunity to explore my interests in business and innovation. The only small improvement I’d suggest would be to provide more structured feedback sessions throughout the program. Overall, it’s a great opportunity for students passionate about research and academic growth.
The Indigo Research Program was a great academic experience for me. The program came with a perfect mix of framework and freedom that enabled me to delve into advanced subjects and at the same time, work on my research persona. The mentoring that was given to me was very considerate and interactive, always encouraging me to improve my logic and express it in a clearer way. All the processes, from thinking of the idea to sending the final paper, were tales of learning which made my curiosity and academic confidence grow deeper. It’s the kind of program that makes you feel supported during your journey while, at the same time, challenges you just enough to ensure your growth.
Indigo's Research programme was pivotal in shaping my academic journey. Firstly, the IRIS Next Gen scholarship gave me the chance to access this opportunity in the first place -- something I am very grateful for since research opportunities are not affordable to all high school students. Completing the research programme itself equipped me with many transferrable and subject-specific skills beyond my high school curriculum. Learning how to use JAMOVI and JASP to conduct data analysis opened my eyes to the mathematical accuracy of quantitative research in Psychology. However, the experience that I cherished the most was cultivating a connection with my professor, Dr Clark. Learning firsthand from a university level professor challenged me to widen my academic horizons and also undertake harder research tasks such as reading full length papers and conducting my own empirical study. At first, the experience felt slightly intimidating but just after 8 weeks, I had written my first 20+ page research paper with original insights! I believe that conducting research in high school will give me a strategic advantage in scouting research opportunities as an undergraduate student. Conducting my own empirical research through the Indigo programme was so thrilling that I have now decided to specialise in Research Psychology at University. Thank you Indigo!
Supportive mentors, good structure, and informative. Very much enjoyed this from start to end, highly recommend!
I participated in IRIS summer program. And I am an IRIS NextGen scholar - I won a scholarship that covers all tuition of program. I want to write this review because IRIS was a truly really life-changing experience. I am from a developing country, and my parents are not very rich; we couldn’t afford programs like that. But thanks to this scholarship program, I finally made my old dream about writing research and being some kind of real scientist come true. The program was really helpful in this path. I received a lot of feedback from my professor and TA, who are actual scientists. I got an opportunity to discuss my thoughts with them! Also, all of my fellow peers were so ambitious and determined students — they all inspired me throughout this summer program. I eventually sent my work to several high school journals, and it wouldn’t have been possible without that program. So thank you so much for this opportunity and for this program!
I joined Indigo to do real research, and it delivered. The first two weeks of engineering sessions gave me a strong base before I even touched my project. The weekly assignments taught me how to read papers properly and extract what actually matters. Sessions also built a clear research structure—how to write each section of a paper step by step—so writing felt doable, not overwhelming. I loved the breakout rooms: they were practical and I always left with one concrete next step. The community was supportive and kept me motivated. Importantly, Indigo also helps you submit to multiple journals (including IJHSR) and gives you chances to present your work—that turned my project into my first empirical paper. Overall, Indigo combines expert-led teaching with hands-on guidance. If you want a serious, supportive path from idea to publication, this is it.
I really liked the sessions and support I got during them. My preferred way of learning is through discussion and because of that, I was able to grasp a lot of the concepts being taught. I also really benefitted from the one on one sessions as I was able to get personalized feedback.
My wonderful professor and teaching assistant were so helpful and attentive throughout the entire process. They never failed to address any doubts and always supported each one, giving specific and thoughtful feedback that only helped us all grow as future researchers.
I participated in Indigo’s IRIS Summer 2024 after being awarded the NextGen Scholarship. IRIS is about much more than simply completing a research project! Its impact on my academic path and everyday skills has been huge. For the structure of the program itself, IRIS’s curriculum does an awesome job at teaching students the very basics of research. As someone who had, before the cohort, zero experience in research (not even proper ways to cite papers), I found myself grasping the methods easily and doing really well in applying them. The process is broken down in really small and clear steps and it’s structured in a way that helps students clearly focus on one task at a time. On a different note, students get a lot of personalized attention. I got to meet with both my mentor and my TA personally and get feedback on my work. Office hours are also really helpful: each student who joins gets some time to ask their questions and get advice. At the end of the cohort, each student gets their own feedback form with details on what is great about the paper, as well as things to improve! The mentors are extremely supportive and always happy to help! I worked with Dr. Hannah Tarder-Stoll and Monika Rybak. They were both really sweet, replied to emails and questions fast, and gave me really specific and actionable feedback on every step of the way. Joani’s help in office hours was also extremely valuable. The team is always doing their best to make sure the students make the most out of the cohort: before classes started, there weren’t any scheduled office hours that worked for my time zone and that were on dates where I did not have a class. The team made itself available and added more weekly office hours for us to benefit as well! They are always there to help and support and really care about how much we’re getting out of it. The skills I gained aren’t only limited to research! I learned how to manage my time when I have big projects, while still making time to celebrate my wins and take care of myself. My way and structure of approaching any project has also become more systematic and productive: This has really been useful in high school projects; it has helped me stand out which also impacted the way I connect with my teachers, which is also really important for letters of recommendation for college apps. IRIS’s impact also was on the very small things like writing emails. Writing emails used to be my biggest fear, but IRIS requires a lot of communication and I was so exposed to emails and talking face-to-face with people that I learned to communicate way better in professional settings. I’ve gained a ton of connections from IRIS too, whether it is with peers in high school from all around the planet, or with professionals and professors already established in their fields. A great detail to mention too for non-native English speakers is that my ability to communicate face-to-face with native English speakers has become way better!! I was fluent before the cohort, but I would get nervous knowing I could only speak in English (It’s my 3rd language). IRIS allows for a lot of speaking with peers and mentors, presenting, meeting new people, and this exposure made me way more confident. I would definitely recommend participating in IRIS. It’s not just any research program, it’s a lifetime investment. Angelina Souaidan
