Prior to my wife passing away, we were discussing and planning future proofing for our daughters. After my wife passed away there was a lot to go through, dealing with various banks, insurance companies and other organisations, I was eventually able to get around to calling several investment companies. There was a lot of required reading before calling them. To my surprise only one company called back. the person who called was James Lawson from Capital Guard. I told him of the companies I had called that his call was the only one returned. He was quite stunned. I gave him some background about myself, my situation and what I wanted to do. He offered to send me some information on some of the investments they were catering for. He said to look them over and to get in touch with him when I was ready. At this time I was also in the midst of changing banks because of unresolved issues. A large portion of my funds were transferred to another bank. I got in touch with James about a week later after the transfer had gone through and I told him I had changed banks and the transfers would come from my new bank. When he asked why and from which bank and I told him, he told me they had a problem with that bank. James arranged for me to meet Vassos in Melbourne because he told me in our first discussion that it was important for prospective clients to meet him in their State offices. I met Vassos in their Melbourne office and the receptionist made me a very nice cup of coffee. Vassos and I had a very good conversation and I left feeling confident I was choosing the correct company for me. I spoke to James later that afternoon and I told him that I was ready to invest with them. The first thing James said to me was, "Leave yourself enough in the way of liquid assets for your tickets and spending money for your trip to Malta and for other incidentals". the second thing he said was that I could have problems transferring funds out of the bank to Capital Guard. Sure enough, the bank refused to honor the transfer. When the assistant told me it wasn't going through the Fraud Dept had declared it was a scam. I got hold of James and told him what had transpired. He told me that I can do my own due diligence through ASIC and that would not be a problem which I had already done. James was with me every step of the way through this disaster which was going to get worse. The bank would not release any funds and by this time I was quite angry. James was telling me that losing my temper was not going to help me or my daughters. He was right. I told this bank to transfer my funds back to my other bank which they also refused to do. Their Fraud Dept told me I would need to open a new account at another bank before they would transfer my funds. Their reason for doing so, the pettiness of this other bank, was because of their claim that my other bank was also involved in the "scam". Again I got in touch with James and told him what had happened. He told me not to worry, and that they were still holding the investment for me. In transferring the funds to the new bank, I made several term deposits over various amounts and time frames because I didn't want a large amount of funds sitting in a savings account. I had transferred the funds to my first bank and there was no problem transferring the funds to Capital Guard. The confidence James had in going through this minefield with me, gave me the confidence to trust him and to trust in the ethical behavior of Capital Guard. The offending bank sent me a report that did not name Capital Guard or my first bank as being party to fraud. The due diligence that I Had done would have been no different to what that bank would have done. I have so much to thank James for. He kept me focused on the future for my daughters, our trip to Malta, my daughters driving lessons, getting their cars, (which has been achieved). Thank you James.
I have always utilised Term Deposits and thought that there must be something out there that provided a better and higher return on investment.
