Travel freedom. Germany, Austria and Switzerland are best (no reservation needed). Meeting with locals and nature is amazing..
Nearly all trains were on time and we left enough time for a connection when they were not. We travelled in France, Switzerland and Italy in April and had a great time - fast and efficient trains and clean stations with helpful staff
great train rides in Denmark, with lots of sun!
The Railplanner app is very helpful when planning a trip. The flexibility. Easy to change train if I miss a change in case of a delay.
The great thing about train travel is that it gets you right to the heart of the cities that you want to visit, with none of the hassle of driving or catching flights. And the convenience of being able to plan your journeys on the hoof using your phone is a great boon.
Try claiming for a delay. You do it immediately and half way through completing the form with all the requests for screenshots of your phone they tell you you must re-submit tomorrow. There is no reason for that. Then after you complete the submission you get an automated e-mail demanding another screenshot and specifying requirements that are not mentioned in the submission screens. The screenshots are unnecessary - their records show whether you used your pass for the delayed train. They are just a hurdle to make claiming more difficult. The process is designed deliberately to make claims as difficult as possible. It is far worse than the processes of the railway companies themselves. Incompetent at keeping your data safe and cheats trying to stop claims for delays.
All trains were punctual. Sometimes you need to pay a bit extra for reserving a spot.
The offer is good but app usability is horrible. Was unable to load my pass and add it to my planned route. Had to redo the whole planning on my phone shortly before departure. Only an uninstall on iOS and fresh install fixed the issue. I wonder how an older person would be stuck in that situation.
Everything worked smoothly. We had booked seats on most trains via national systems (and two sleepers on night trains) and usually only had to show our interrail cads. We bought ordinary tickets for the journey from Venice to Imperia (Liguria) and from Liguria to Marseille, but it would have been cheaper to take extra Interrail days. The night train from Stockholm to Hamburg was four hours late as it often is -- it was a good thing that we had Interrail and could take any train , and that we had built in a large margin. All the other trains, in Germany, Italy, France, and the UK, kept good time.
Overall pretty good. I've used interrail many times. In the beginning the app took a bit of getting used to. But when you get the hang of it, it is pretty good, and you have a lot of flexibility. Sometimes ordering seat tickets is not a super smooth process, depending on the country. But overall, I'm happy to use interrail, and this is my preffered option for long distance train rides in EU.
Easy booking, easy to make the trips in the app
I took the long way to Berlin, 1st class, never done it before. Home to St Pancras-Brussels stayed there the night, on to cologne then Berlin. Coming back Berlin Cologne stayed the night, Brussels stayed the night and then home again. There were working in Germany but I wasn’t in a rush I just made sure I had a longer change over time. I did reserve a seat in Europe as the trains are busy. Never had a problem with Interrail, I buy the ticket when it’s on offer and use it within the year. Everyone knows who Interrail are so there are no problems on the trains or stations. I’ve used Interrail many times now and will carry on using it…
My trip was really great and I had few problems with the trains. What I really don't like is the fact that you sometimes have to pay extra fofr a seat on certain trains depending on the country. If you do the maths, buying an interrail pass can end up being more expensive than getting a ticket at the train station.
Just completed our 2nd Interrail trip using mobile passes. Very easy to use and good value.
Interrail is the best way to explore Europe, to meet other travellers and learn about other cultutes. Small carbon footprint
