I requires some experience but then the planning app works. The seats reservation gives some problems.
After a few years of experiments I now how to deal with Interrail. I have no problems with the planning anymore.
A great opportunity, but it's very difficult to book a place!
With a change of phone between two legs of a two month ticket. The info I glanced at was not clear. I managed to do this whilst on the move with the 2nd leg within an hour. It would have been less stressful if the info regarding change was easier.
The Railplanner app is very helpful when planning a trip. The flexibility. Easy to change train if I miss a change in case of a delay.
All trains were punctual. Sometimes you need to pay a bit extra for reserving a spot.
Everything worked smoothly. We had booked seats on most trains via national systems (and two sleepers on night trains) and usually only had to show our interrail cads. We bought ordinary tickets for the journey from Venice to Imperia (Liguria) and from Liguria to Marseille, but it would have been cheaper to take extra Interrail days. The night train from Stockholm to Hamburg was four hours late as it often is -- it was a good thing that we had Interrail and could take any train , and that we had built in a large margin. All the other trains, in Germany, Italy, France, and the UK, kept good time.
Overall pretty good. I've used interrail many times. In the beginning the app took a bit of getting used to. But when you get the hang of it, it is pretty good, and you have a lot of flexibility. Sometimes ordering seat tickets is not a super smooth process, depending on the country. But overall, I'm happy to use interrail, and this is my preffered option for long distance train rides in EU.
