Nationwide Renewables has a severely damaged reputation (2.7/5) due to critical failures in post-installation documentation, lack of required MCS certification, and poor customer service, though installation quality itself is sometimes praised.

I signed a contract with Nationwide Renewables back in July 2025 following a home visit from an extremely pushy salesman who stayed in my home for over an hour. I paid a £1,000 deposit there and then as I was initially convinced. The next day, and following some additional research, I decided to cancel in line as is my right under consumer protection laws. What followed was what I can only decide as a hellish experience, being constantly harassed by phone, often on a daily basis. The calls initially consisted of them asking me to "explain myself", and included accusations that I intentionally led them on. After a week or so, they started promising that the refund would be processed, which never happened despite multiple phone calls. After nearly a month of this and feeling exhausted, I left a review on a site elsewhere detailing my experience. From there, the phone calls became even more frequent, and more aggressive and threatening. They suggested that were going to take legal action for defamation, and that they would only refund me if I agreed to take down the review. These phone calls have continued into 2026, I have had to block nearly a dozen phone numbers from them as their contact had become tantamount to harassment. To date, no refund has been received.
⚠️ AWARE, AWARE, AWARE – DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ⚠️ Once they take your money, they do not care. This company’s main motivation appears to be taking customers’ money by making promises they cannot deliver. I have learned the hard way, and I am writing this review to warn others. My solar panels were fitted in the first week of July 2025, but not as agreed. I paid for 8 panels, yet only 6 were installed. A manager later had to come to my home to redo the contract after payment had already been taken. They only knocked a small amount off the total for the two missing panels, which is completely unacceptable given what I paid for. Seven months later, my system still has not been switched to the promised cheaper tariff. I was clearly told by David (the salesperson) that my tariff would change on the day of installation and that the company would handle everything, so I “wouldn’t need to stress about anything.” However, I am now being asked to pay an additional £250 because Nationwide has failed to provide the required completion certificates, which Octopus needs in order to switch the tariff. This cost was never mentioned at the time of sale. As a result, I am stuck paying the full standard tariff, costing me extra every month. Even more concerning, even if I pay the £250, there is still no guarantee that Octopus will switch my tariff. I have been told that if the switch cannot be completed, I would only receive £150 back, meaning I would still be out of pocket by £100 — despite this situation being caused by Nationwide’s failure to provide the correct certification. Crucially, Nationwide cannot provide the required MCS certificate, which are essential for proving the installation is compliant and for enabling tariff changes and system validation. This failure is the main reason my tariff cannot be switched and why I am now being asked to pay The installation itself was not completed according to the contract. Parts of the work I paid for — including the smart heating control system — remained unfinished for months, despite repeated promises it would be completed. While the smart heating has now been installed, nothing else has been resolved. During installation, the scaffolding company severely damaged my resin driveway, which I paid over £7,000 for. I reported this immediately and sent video evidence to Nationwide on the same day. Seven months later, the damage has still not been repaired, my driveway continues to deteriorate, I have made over 100 phone calls trying to get answers. Customer service has been appalling. On one occasion, when I asked to speak to someone familiar with my case, I was put through to a staff member who was rude, dismissive, refused to take a message, and even hung up on me. I have also submitted two Subject Access Requests (SARs) for my personal data, which have been completely ignored, despite this being a legal requirement under GDPR. Most concerning of all, I was told by the company that if I removed my Trustpilot review, they would try to resolve the issues. I did so in good faith, yet nothing has been resolved, apart from the smart heating installation. The rest of the issues remain outstanding. This entire experience has caused huge stress, financial loss, and endless frustration. Please, please, please think very carefully before using this company. I strongly recommend choosing a reputable company such as Octopus instead. Nationwide Renewables is not worth the stress or the money you will end up wasting. “Update in response to Nationwide Renewables’ reply:” 17/02/26 My contact details have not changed, and I have made multiple attempts to contact Nationwide myself. I paid for 8 panels, and the reduction to 6 was only discussed after payment. The £250 Octopus issue arose due to missing certification following installation. Driveway damage also remains unresolved since July 2025. I am happy to resolve matters formally in writing but require clear timelines and documentation.
Update- since this review was originally posted on 29th September on google I was contacted. And asked to remove my review. Signed a document that stated they will : 1. Finalizing the installation and functionality of the Smart Heating system. 2. Inspecting and arranging the repair for the Resin Driveway. Reviewing the usage and troubleshooting any issues related to the system's App and overall system usage. 4. Diagnosing and resolving the issue where the Battery does not appear to be charging. 5. Providing the necessary documentation to enable the customer to export to the grid.” ONLY IF WE REMOVE THE REVIEW The exact wording is “ To expedite the payment process for the required remedial work (especially the driveway and any necessary parts/labor), we would be very grateful if you could temporarily remove or suspend your negative online reviews before my arrival.” The only work carried out was the smart heating and even that was an exhausting experience. The company tried to use a google nest but Nest pulled out of the UK. We were lucky the installer had a Hive thermostat available and he could instal - he took the Google nest as he was afraid he wouldn't get paid for the actual work carried out.(who would blame him if he’s been sub contracted by this company before) I have actually uploaded this document on google reviews so feel free to go have a look at the lies they tell. 29/09/2024 Awful. Find a better company. Awful company to get solar panels from, we got a quote from one of the sales reps which was great, went ahead with it and arranged for the installation. They use third party companies for scaffolding and electricians. First the Scaffolders came and put the scaffolding up which was wrong as it didn't cover the full front of the house (a safety hazard for the workers that were going to be going in the roof) Next was that we were quoted for 8 solar panels but when the solar panels arrived we were told that only 6 could be installed due to placement on the roof. To which WE then had to ring the company and inform them of this and argue with them over how the price should be reduced to reflect this as its a breach of the contract. Then after the installation it was time to take the scaffolding down at which time the scaffolders were throwing connectors which damaged and disfigured our resin driveway. When we reported this to them they asked for evidence. Which we sent them. No reply. No fix. Nothing. Next, is the awful timing and communication. It has been months since the installation and we have received 0 communication from them and have made multiple calls requesting an update on certification and when the switch will be made through the electricity provider to solar panels to which not a single call back has been received. Every single time I have called I have been told that I will definitely get a call back and Never do
Now being ignored. It’s been 13 months since installation - Dec 24. Still not able to sell to the grid. I have been so understanding and lenient with them but they’ve clearly taken me for a mug. They’re unreliable and unprofessional.
