very forward thinking company, I am a shopify partner for 9 years and it's the backbone of my business, recommend them and 9 out of 10 I get good experience with their support
Shopify sells your products on SHOP regardless of your merchant settings -- even when merchants have all products set NOT to be live on SHOP and even when merchants uninstall SHOP channel, Shopify ignores these settings and still makes your products + pricing live on SHOP regardless. The only option to prevent this are 1) don't use Shopify to sell your products online 2) make all your products completely hidden to all online search engine results (for example, no one will see your products in any Google search results) 3) opt out of SHOP (which took us over three hours in chat because human chat reps told us over and over again this was not possible even after we sent them screenshots of Shopify's own support pages stating merchants should contact Shopify support to opt out of shop); however, opting out of SHOP means your products are completely hidden from all agentic search results (for example, no one using Chat GPT will even find any of your products). In other words, Shopify sells your products regardless of your settings and Shopify holds your products hostage by removing them from search results unless you participate in their SHOP. So they lie, they hide, and their support is horrible -- don't use Shopify to sell products online or in-store.
