Coinbase receives polarized feedback with a 3.4/5 rating, driven by strong praise for ease of use from some customers but severely undermined by critical issues with account security, customer support responsiveness, and confusing platform restrictions.

I opened my account in early 2025 with a handful of small purchases totalling less than €40 — hardly the profile of a suspicious actor. A year later, in February 2026, I completed their KYC verification without any issues. My account then sat completely inactive for three months — no transactions, no suspicious activity, nothing. Then out of nowhere: permanently closed. The support response was a shameless copy-paste template citing vague "security and legal requirements" with zero specifics. When I asked for clarification, I got the exact same boilerplate back. They even accidentally included an internal Slack channel name (#ask-onboarding-kyc) instead of an actual contact link — a copy-paste error that reveals exactly how automated and careless their customer communication is. What's the point of KYC if you close accounts that passed it? Passing verification apparently means nothing. They'll verify you, let your account sit, and then quietly close it anyway — no warning, no appeal process, no transparency, no human response. If you're an EU resident with a non-Western passport, don't waste your time. Your account can be pulled at any moment regardless of your compliance, activity, or verification status. Coinbase is a US company applying opaque, inconsistent rules with zero accountability. There are far more reliable and transparent platforms operating in Europe. Avoid.
The user interface is possibly one of the most confusing, disorganized and unprofessional I have ever had the displeasure of using. The CEO should be forced to use this pile of garbage for a few hours every day. Messages make no sense. For example, when you transfer cash from a bank account and buy crypto with it, there's a hold on that until the funds have cleared. Fair enough, but how the heck are you supposed to know that? All you get when trying to transfer is "no compatible wallet", when I know it's compatible because I've used it before. Nothing about the navigation makes sense, I'm just baffled by how any company with their market cap cannot employ developers to make something user friendly. It's just hot garbage, it really is.
My acct. was hacked, and all my money was stolen. I reported this to Coinbase, but have not heard back after a week. Very bad place to keep any money.
This guys are the worst! Just trying to transfer funds to my forex broker account, and they restrict me for 1 week, just like that. When the 1 week expires, they won't let me fund my account. These guys want you to keep your money on their platfrom so they can keep collecting fees. They took over $200 in fees and still restricted my transaction. White collar scam! Horrible! Kraken is the opposite of them! Save yourself the pain!
For the past year, in fact over a year my partner and I have paying and paying for this KYC and every time we pay more money there is always a reason for us to pay more. We have paid more money than we had had do effectly the customer has been destroyed. DYK. I'm not certain if we've been scammed or the staff at coinbase base are that bad. Either way retirement for me is out the window now and I'll never go anywhere near cyrpto again. This has been the worse financial experience of my life and it has left me broke. If its scammers I apologise to coinbase as I cant be certain at this point. The only thing I am certain of is I can't make the payment they have asked for today so I will remain broke if it was real.
I had some fraudulent activity reported it 4 times the fourth time the guy asked me. Do you want me to lock your account? I said no, he locked it. I lost everything and now I cannot get back in with my security password coinbase Employees I think our corrupt
How a multi million company survives when they hire amateurs? Stuck in between receiving emails and not being able to access my account, -Coinbase sends emails with no options to unsibscribe -Emails ask for identity verification -All right lets login and disable account -Must either complete verification or "sign out" -Great- only a genius woulve think of this, something of an amateur or a first time dev.
I created my account with Coinbase in 2019. I wanted to start using it again, but it seems they just deleted it "due to non-compliance". I can't access it anymore. Oh well, I'll go somewhere else.
